WE SELL ALL FAIR TRADE AND ORGANIC COFFEE
NEWS

shade farmAs a founding roaster-owner of Cooperative Coffees, Inc. we import and sell only Organic, Fair Trade, green coffees from small farmer cooperatives. This effort supports a more equitable and sustainable system of coffee trade that directly benefits these farmers, their families, their communities, and the environment.
Our coffee is grown under canopies of trees. That is why it's called bird-friendly. It is grown in sustainable harmony with the environment.

COOPERATIVE COFFEES and our PARTNER GROWERS' COOPERATIVES

inhand.gif (15076 bytes)Cooperatives Coffees guarantees our farmer partners premium prices for their specialty shade-grown arabica coffee beans no matter how low the market price dips. Farmers can support families and workers, which strengthens the community. Our Farmer Partners are collectives in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Sumatra, Mexico and Ethiopia.

There are 707 families that are members of the cooperative. Five hundred ten are certified organic, the rest of the members are working to get their certification. Each year since 2002, their production increases, and they are able to export several more containers of certified organic fair trade coffee than the previous year.

As their production and shipping volume increases, so does their need for common storage. With the help of Cooperative Coffees, the growers' cooperative in Chiapas plans to build a warehouse near their existing office which will improve coordination between members and the cooperative's shipping schedules. Their long ange plans include bringing processing equipment to the warehouse.
