Green teas are said to have many health-giving properties, the most of all teas. They contain anti-oxidants to oppose cellular breakdown, cancer fighting agents, cholesterol-reducing compounds and other cool things.

We have two fine green teas and they are quite different from each other as we’ll see during the tasting. Remember to infuse green teas at 180 degrees for three minutes only.

China Green Dragon Well

We are adding a green tea from China. This Dragon Well is one of China’s, and the world’s, finest teas. Like the Darjeeling, it is an expensive grade of a superior tea..

Darjeeling Second Flush

Mike Spillane, a tea importer, once said, "The harder it is to explain what it tastes like, the better your Darjeeling is."

Darjeeling is a well known name in the tea world and is one of the world’s most prized teas. It is an India black tea, grown in northeast India in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. To obtain the leaf to make an excellent tea, the top two small leaves and the unopened bud between them are picked from each branch of the tea plant. The time when these two leaves and a bud are ready to pick is called a flush. In Darjeeling, the first flush is in the spring (March and April).

The second flush, which occurs in June is considered the best picking for a Darjeeling. Our Darjeeling is a second flush tea and a very special one. The monsoons come in the summer and the tea is generally not noteworthy. Then in October, the Darjeeling autumnal flush can also produce excellent teas.

Jazz Mountain

This special blend is the second created by Heine Brothers’. The Irish Breakfast is the first. The blend makes use of our two most distinctive teas, the Darjeeling and the Keemun. This blend picks up the best of the Darjeeling and the best of the Keemun. The Darjeeling forms the broad, complex base. The Keemun provides a smoky edge. Their combination makes for a expansive, hint of smoke aftertaste.
