sunbullt.gif (1025 bytes)COMMUNITY LINKS

Breaking New Grounds—Several years ago, Heine Brothers started researching the composting of the 50 tons of coffee grounds produced by their five local coffee stores each year. Then, after traveling to Nicaragua and Guatemala in 2005 and 2006, they saw how the purchase of fair trade, organic coffees helped the communities of coffee farmers there. They wondered what they could do in Louisville, Kentucky to help our economically disadvantaged neighbors, and their children who go to bed hungry, to transform their lives? Was there something they could do to reduce the ecologic impact of their business and at the same time produce some added benefit for the local community? Thus, the idea of Breaking New Grounds was born—a neighborhood-based community food system that turns "waste into wealth."

Community Farm Alliance -- a statewide grassroots organization of persons committed to family-scale farming as the most efficient and sustainable form of producing the best quality food, while protecting the environment and strengthening rural community life.

--a grassroots public awareness campaign, recently and quietly begun by a small but growing coalition of independent Louisville business owners who are concerned with the spreading homogenization of our hometown. Because "...even minor spending habit changes can contribute millions to the local economy."

Cranium Glass
Cranium Glass designs, fabricates and installs both functional architectural glass -- doors, windows and skylights -- and small-scaled, multi-layered, suspended art glass compositions. Our focus: distinctive, thoughtful designs, remarkable materials and exceptional craftsmanship. We deliver on our commitments and consistently exceed our clients' high expectations.

LEO
Louisville Eccentric Observer, better known as "LEO," is a popular alternative weekly with lots of coverage of local music and entertainment events.

Louisville Magazine
This glossy and award-winning monthly used to be owned by the Chamber of Commerce. Now it's privately published by Louisville journalist Dan Crutcher, and we think it's better than ever.

Louisville.com
Both of those magazines are housed on Louisville.com, an excellent Website that showcases our city for visitors, residents and the rest of the world alike.

WFPL 89.3 FM
We're enthusiastic supporters of Louisville's Public Radio Partnership, and Heine Brothers' Coffee is proud to underwrite some of the programming on WFPL.

Wine Lovers' Page
When your sipping interests shift from coffee to fine table wines, we recommend Robin Garr's Wine Lovers' Page on the Web, developed by the wine-loving, coffee-drinking gent who also built The Coffee Planet for us. Enjoy!
