Businesses now have recycling!

Posted July 15, 2010

Launching July 1, 2010, in District 9 (Crescent Hill, Clifton, Butchertown) the Business Recycling Pilot Program will be the first of its kind in Louisville outside the downtown business district. The pilot program will:

  • Be available to the over 200 businesses along Frankfort Avenue. Currently, businesses must store and take their recyclable materials to a recycling center or discard with trash that goes to the landfill.
  • Offer businesses an orange 95 gallon recycling container for $50.00 each, making recycling cost- effective for businesses.

The pilot program includes the funding to equip solid waste packer trucks with a special arm to empty the containers, which are identical to waste cans except they're orange. If the pilot program is successful along Frankfort Avenue, the program will be extended to Lexington Rd., Brownsboro Rd., Story and Mellwood Avenue businesses in the 9th District.

Heine Brothers' Coffee would like to thank Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh for pioneering this awesome program which will allow MANY more businesses to recycle than do so now.  For those of us who already recycle, curbside pick-up will make our days a bit less hectic and will eliminate the labor costs that are incurred when recyclables are collected and taken to a recycling center by one of our employees.  Here's looking forward to the day when all businesses in Louisville are offered curbside recycling pick-up!
